Your studies: a person you admire in your field

Andreas Vesalius was a physician and an anatomist of the Middle Age. He was born in 1514 Brussels and he died in 1564 Greece. He wrote one of the most important books on human anatomy "De humanis corpori fabrica". He proposed hands on direct observation as the only reliable resource in the anatomy knowledge, which was a huge break with the medieval practice.

I admire Vesalius because he was a brave; he was the first physician that questioned Galeno with solid evidence. And as a result, he was capable of publishing a correction of Galen's anatomical text and he began writing his own text.

Incredibly this anatomy´s giant was recognized in his time, in fact, he actually was invited as imperial physician to the court of Emperor Charles V.

The genius of Vesalius is recognized in our days, he is often referred to as the founder of modern human anatomy.

Career-related website

The best career-related website is, in my opinion, Pubmed. Pubmed has everything you need, has all the current knowledge of the world of medicine, it's amazing! I found this website while I was looking for information about a very specific medicine topic on the internet (the expression of the cytokeratine C18 in the Sertoli cells). Since that moment I visit that website every week.
The feature I mostly like about this website is his up to date.
Definitely I recommend this website because is so necessary for the practice of medicine.

First Task

I was on vacations in La Serena city. It was about 3:30 A. M., I was asleep when the earth began to shake. At first I thought that it was another seism, so I fell asleep again. But 15 minutes later my boyfriend called. He told me that it wasn’t a seism, it was an earthquake and he warned me of the tsunami alert in the Chilean coast. So my family and I escaped to Vicuña, a town in the hills. We stayed in the car for 3 hours while we were listening to the radio. In that moment we realized the magnitude of the disaster. We were so worried about the rest of our family and friends. When we returned to the house we spent all day watching news on TV. From my opinion the situation was dramatic, and we had to return as soon as we can. So we got back home the next day.
